There are 4 casitas, each with two rooms which has three queen sized beds and an on-suite bathroom. The back porch overlooks a water hole where it is not uncommon to see Sable Antelope, Kudu, Axis Deer, and Whitetail Deer drinking water. They are gregarious and live in groups of up to 30. Sable antelopes occur abundantly in South Africa and their conservation status is stable and of least concern. A granite bar top and service area is perfect for relaxing and telling hunting stories. Their impressive, long, scimitar-shaped horns that curve backwards are their most outstanding feature and can measure up to 1.2 metres. The main lodge includes 32-foot ceilings with black walnut walls covered with trophies from around the world. You will be staying in our 7,000-foot Waterfall Lodge which was completed in the summer of 2014. Because of our management and breeding success, Star S Ranch has record class trophy hunting. We are not going to hunt a bull until he has reached his maximum size. We limit our hunting, only taking a few mature bulls per year. Angola was once home to great numbers of the giant sable or Hippotragus Variani, which had horns that were commonly over 50”. Their range spans across the Southern parts of Africa. You will see younger bachelor groups of as many as 15 feeding together though. Bad tempered and extremely territorial, older bulls seldom move from their selected territories. Even lions view them as a food source of last resort. Bulls will weigh 750 pounds and have very few enemies. As a grazer, sable are primarily grass eaters though you will usually see them skirting the edge of the brush. That number is growing as we release approximately 15-20 each year from our breeding areas. We estimate roughly 50 bulls inhabiting 8,000 acres. Our population of Sable number over 120 animals making it the largest herd outside of Africa. Sable Antelope are among Africa’s most prized trophies, also known as the royal antelope.
